Stanford's Comedy Club & Restaurant

Stanford’s Restaurant was founded by Stanford Glazer in 1975, in Westport…Kansas City, MO’s entertainment district in those days. Craig Glazer, Jeff Glazer and David Naster started booking comedy acts in 1979 in the lounge above the restaurant. The restaurant was re-named Stanford and Sons, a nod to the hit show “Sanford and Son” starring comic Red Foxx and because the owner of the club’s first name was Stanford Glazer and his sons ran the restaurant. Stanford and Son’s exploded onto the national scene in 1981 when Craig Glazer met Robin Williams in Los Angeles and he agreed to work Stanford’s for free to work on his act. Variety in Hollywood wrote about it and the rest is history.

Stanford and Son’s became one of the top named clubs in the nation with big names and up-and- comers performing weekly from all over the nation. Stand-up comedy legends like Rosanne, Louie Anderson, Sam Kinison, Tommy Chong, Ellen Degeneres, Jerry Seinfeld, Richard Lewis, Pauly Shore, Damon Wayons, Lewis Black and Lisa Lampanelli have all graced the Stanford’s stage in Kansas City over the years. The Glazers also became nationally known for their flamboyant lifestyles. Stan ran for mayor of Kansas City, Craig sold his life story as a film, produced the life story of Muhammad Ali called ‘Champions Forever’ while Jeff worked tirelessly to make Stanford’s a household name in Kansas City. Stanford and Son’s Comedy Club is the longest running comedy club owned by the same family in the country besides The Comedy Store in Los Angeles owned by the Shore’s.
 
In 2014 The Glazers moved to a new home in Rosana Square Shopping Center in Overland Park, Kansas and are taking Johnson County by storm! With the addition of a new, full service restaurant headed by Chef John Scott and offerings like dinner and a show there are now new options for entertainment in Johnson County that have never been seen before! Look for even more exciting changes in 2015 with the addition of a patio space and expanded bar and lounge area. Stanford and Son’s is putting Overland Park on the map as Johnson County’s premier nightlife destination!
